About Me:
I recently moved from my native Germany to Newcastle (third time I moved to the UK!) to join my British/Portuguese family that came over from Portugal. Currently our only pets are two stick insects, but everyone would love to have a dog!

We share 60% of our genes with flies, so it not too surprising that many essential biological functions are very similar. Along with its genetic accessibility (the fly has only four chromosomes!) and a completely mapped brain (every neuron, every synapse) it will be hard to find a better organism to answer fundamental questions about brain function.
After studying learning and memory in flies, I am currently interested in flies going on carousels. Although this may sound silly, the bigger question for me right now is: what is it good for, and why do some animals not play?
