PhD researcher looking at grass mowing and how it effects insects, plants and soil!

I am researching whether the amount of mowing affects the type of insects and plants which grow in Newcastle parks. I will mainly focus on flies as they are big pollinators, just less popular. I might even look at worms in the soil.

Education:
I grew up and went to school in Leeds. I did not do very well in my GCSE science exams but I knew I wanted to carry on with science, so I went to a new college at 16.
Science A levels were also very hard and I was disappointed in my results.
I managed to get into Northumbria University and focus on general biology, because I was not sure what I wanted to focus on.
Through this degree I found that I loved the environment and nature. I also found that I was much better at coursework and creative projects than school exams, so I found the less traditional route which worked for me.
Since this degree, I have completed my masters in conservation and I am now doing a PhD research project with Northumbria and Newcastle University.
