About Me:
Hi! I’m Clara, I work at Northumbria University and I’m fascinated with animal behaviour.
Outside of work, some of my favorite things are playing games with my children, cooking and eating with friends, gardening, reading, jogging and going for walks in nature (anything from fossil hunting at the beach, to mushroom spotting in the forest).

I grew up in Portugal but have roots in Yorkshire, as that is where my mum’s family is from. I studied and worked in Portugal and the UK, with couple of shorter adventures in Norway and France.

My Work:
I am Neuroscientist, that is I study how the brain works. I work with fruit flies, those little creatures that show up in our houses when our fruit is getting a bit too ripe. They have tiny brains and can do amazing things, from learning and remembering where they can get food, through interacting with other flies to fight off competition or stay safe from predators in groups, to playing with carousels!
