I grew up and went to school in Newcastle Upon Tyne. When I finished my A-Levels I was very undecided on what I wanted to do next. So instead of going straight to university, I decided to take a break from education and travel the world.
I did two winter ski seasons, where I lived and worked in a Chalet Resort in in Tignes, France. After that, I travelled Europe on a sailing yacht with friends, visiting France, Sicily, Italy, and Greece.
When I came back to Newcastle, I studied at university for three years and then started to work for a North East, finance and technology company called Sage.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading books, mostly fantasy or fantasy romance. I enjoy visiting Scotland and the Lake District to go hiking. And I love riding and taking care of horses.

My job is all about keeping Sage, its colleagues, and customers safe from cybercriminals.
I’ve worked in two areas of Cyber Security: Offensive Security and Defensive Security.
In the Offensive Security Team, we act like the “bad guys” and try to hack into Sage’s systems. This helps us find weak spots before real cybercriminals do. By finding and fixing these issues, we make Sage’s security stronger and safer.
In the Defensive Security Team, our job is to monitor and protect Sage’s systems. We respond to “alerts,” which are warnings that something unusual might be happening. If we spot anything suspicious, we act quickly to stop any threats and keep everyone safe.
Every day is different in Cyber Security, and the work we do helps protect not just Sage, but also the personal information of millions of customers. It’s a job where you need to stay curious, keep learning, and think like both a defender and an attacker!

Education:
The A-Levels I did were more relevant to a career in Science as that’s what I wanted to do at the time. Before I could study my degree, I did some training and courses in my spare time – I learnt how to write code in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. And through this, I gained an interest in Cyber Security so pursued a career in this field.
I then went on to study Networking and Cyber Security at university. I learnt;
- How computer systems communicate
- How to write security programs in python (a coding language)
- How to perform open-source investigation (basically online detective work to gather intelligence)
- How to ethically hack
-
Qualifications:
GCSEs – English Literature, English Language, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Business, IT, German
A-Levels – Chemistry, Biology, English Literature
University – BSc Networking and Cyber Security (Computer Science)
Further IT Qualifications – AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals, ISC2 Certified in Cyber Security

Work History:
Before I worked at Sage, I worked in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead as an IT Technician in the Pathology Laboratory. This involved fixing problems with all sorts of IT and Medical equipment, from laptops and printers, to centrifuges and analysers.
Prior to working in the NHS, I worked in several restaurants, and worked for around a year as a recruitment consultant.
