I grew up in Jarrow, South Tyneside where I did A Levels at school. I originally went to university in Durham but did not enjoy the subject so I changed to do Zoology at Newcastle university.
I am currently working towards a PhD at Northumbria University in the Geography department. My research looks at artificial lawns in people’s gardens. I also enjoy going into local schools to play a board game meant to get us talking about climate change.
Outside of work, I like going hiking in Scotland, especially with my dog Odin, we like to look for wildlife and spend time outdoors. I also enjoy reading, listening to Taylor Swift, and eating Pizza.

My Work:

My project is split into three main sections.
- Part 1 looks at why people choose to have artificial grass in their garden.
- Part 2 is trying to see artificial grass using images from satellites in space
- Part 3 is an experiment to measure the changes that artificial grass makes to the environment.
My favourite part of my work is getting to go outdoors and take samples and measurements. I have set up my own science experiment using different plastic grasses and lots of sensors to measure the environment.
I also spend time talking to people and getting to know their views, and sharing my work with other people.

Education:
I studied Physics at Durham University for two years before I decided I needed a change. I moved to Newcastle University to study Zoology and while I was there did lots of other fun jobs. My favourite job was working in a woodland with camera traps to see what wildlife we could find. We spotted a dog who had strayed off the path and lots of deer.

Qualifications:
GCSEs in Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English, Geography, History, RE, French and IT.
A Levels in Maths, Physics, and History.
While I did my Zoology degree I worked for a Call Centre during Covid, talked to students about the university on open days and was a research assistant. I got to help with research on invasive species (which shouldn’t be there) in woods. This involved looking at how plants decomposed (broke down) into the soil to see how the invasive species managed to survive.
I have also worked for Wilko, Matalan, Tesco, and as a lunchtime supervisor in a secondary school.
