About Me:
I love science and anything out of the ordinary. I’m a molecular biologist and science communicator on the weekdays and a (frustrated) tennis player on the weekends. I have two dogs, Louise and Luna, who I both miss very much. I love taking photos, going to art museums and breaking down films in discussion threads or heated debates. I also love to collect vinyl toy figures like Hirono and Smiski!

My Work:
I currently work as an Explainer (with PCR specialism) at the Life Science Centre. I deliver a variety of science workshops: from launching rockets, dissecting organs, to DNA analysis. My favourite science is molecular biology (which is all about the teeny tiny bits inside your body). You can ask me about that, my work in the centre, or anything you like!

Education:
I’ll let you in a little secret: science wasn’t always my best suit. But thanks to an wonderful teacher I had back in high school, I learned to love biology. This inspired me to pursue a degree in Medical Biology at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines. I initially wanted to become a doctor, but I had a change of heart during my senior year. I worked at a city hospital for a bit as a cardiac technologist, but then I realised I wanted to continue the research I did back in university. Two years ago, I came to the UK to pursue a master’s degree in Cancer Biology, where I looked at ways on how we can alternatively treat brain cancer. While doing my masters, I found a passion for science communication — and this is what brought me to my current job as a science explainer at Life!
-
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Biology
Master of Science degree in Cancer Biology
-
Work History:
After I got my bachelor’s degree in 2022, I briefly worked as a cardiac technologist at a private hospital in the Philippines. As a cardiac technologist, I performed diagnostic tests involving the heart. This includes ECG tests, treadmill stress tests, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and Holter monitoring. All these were meant to help doctors know if a person had something wrong with their heart.
-
Current Job:
I’m currently an explainer at Life — where I get to do science workshops for school groups. Some of the workshops I do involves learning about space, DNA, genetics, and the human body. It’s a fun job because I get to be an astronaut one day and a molecular scientist the next day.
